John Vining gained a national reputation as an outstanding singer in Opera and music theater at the beginning of his career. He has sung in many major theaters throughout the country. Including Memphis, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Grand Rapids, Washington, and New York. He has received critical acclaim for his beautiful and thoughtful singing. He received professional training at the Cleveland Institute of Music studying voice with the legendary George Vassos and piano with Olga Radoslavovich. He continued as an apprentice artist with the Santa Fe Opera, then moved to NYC to study at the Metropolitan Opera. After 15 years as a professional performer he moved into arts education and as his children reached school age he became Music director at Mount Vernon's St. Vincent School, a position he has held for 23 years.
